Instant Pot Beef and Broccoli Recipe
Transform your dinner routine with this easy and delicious Instant Pot beef and broccoli recipe. Not only is it quick to make, but it also beats takeout on every level, offering a healthy, flavorful meal that’s perfect for busy evenings

Preparing the Aromatics
To start, we’ll need to prepare our aromatics. We’re using a shallot, a piece of ginger, and a few cloves of garlic. The shallot adds a delicious flavor without being too strong, while the ginger provides a nice warmth to the dish. Mince the shallot and garlic, and use a spoon to remove the skin from the ginger before slicing and mincing it.
Cooking the Beef
Next, we’ll prepare the beef. Slice the sirloin into even pieces and set the Instant Pot to sauté on high. Add a drizzle of avocado oil and cook the beef until it’s browned, stirring occasionally. We’re not looking to cook the beef through at this stage, just brown it.
Adding Flavors and Liquid
Add a little sesame oil, water, and coconut oil to the Instant Pot, stirring to deglaze the pan. Then, add the browned beef back into the pot, along with some cracks of fresh black pepper. We’re not adding salt at this stage, as we’ll be using soy sauce later.
Adding Soy Sauce and Wine
Add Chinese rice wine (or water if you prefer) to the pot, stirring to combine. Then, add soy sauce (we’re using a gluten-free tamari and dark soy sauce) and filtered water. Make sure to use enough water so the Instant Pot can pressurize correctly.
Cooking the Rice
Add a trivet and heat-proof glass bowl to the Instant Pot, and then add white basmati rice. Rinse the rice well before adding it to the pot, and make sure to use white rice, not brown rice.
Cooking the Broccoli
While the Instant Pot is cooking, prepare the broccoli. Cut it into florets and set aside. We’ll cook the broccoli in the microwave later, as it would become too mushy if cooked in the Instant Pot.
Cooking and Pressure Release
Close the lid of the Instant Pot and set it to high pressure for 4 minutes. After the cooking time is up, allow a 10-minute natural pressure release. This will ensure the meat is tender and delicious.
Cooking the Broccoli in the Microwave
While the Instant Pot is releasing pressure, cook the broccoli in the microwave. Place the broccoli in a microwavable steamer basket, add a little water, and cook for 3 minutes. The broccoli will be perfectly cooked and tender.
Assembling the Dish
Once the pressure has released, open the lid of the Instant Pot and remove the bowl and trivet. Add the cooked broccoli to the pot, stirring to combine. Add a little more dark soy sauce if desired, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Plating and Serving
Plate the dish, garnishing with black sesame seeds and crushed red pepper flakes if desired. This recipe is perfect for meal prep, and the flavors are better than takeout. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
